Satyendra Rana, Ph.D,

Chief Technology Officer

A perpetual innovator and entrepreneur in his vocation, Satyendra Rana is an unapologetic challenger of status quo. Loven Systems is his latest act of that spirit, where he is leading the research and development of a big data science platform, called DIWO™(Data In Wisdom Out), inspired by systems thinking approach and cognitive science.

Dr. Rana’s diverse background ranging from mathematical models to distributed computing, and from business process engineering to IT governance, endows him with an enviable position to address the unique challenges and opportunities posed by the democratization of data and commoditization of computing power.

Most recently, Dr. Rana, as a founding co-director, led the established of Big Data & Business Analytics Group to bring academia, industry, and government together on a single platform to discuss and share research and practice insights. This group has been institutionalized and has successfully conducted two annual symposiums so far (see www.bigdata.wayne.edu).

As a thought leader and frequent speaker at various prestigious forums, Dr. Rana stays at the forefront of industry trends, especially at the confluence of business and information technology and shares his experience widely through meetup groups and other entrepreneurial forums. He has a passion for entrepreneurship, innovation, and mentoring and was the founding president of TIE Austin and led the group for over 8 years in its formative stages.

In his exciting journey spanning over 30 years, Dr. Rana has built and sold companies in emerging technologies, held senior and executive leadership positions in various companies, won prestigious industry awards, served on the boards of startups, and has mentored many professionals.

Dr. Rana holds a Doctorate Degree in Distributed Computing from Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India where he was also a faculty member for over 4 years before migrating to USA. He earned his Master’s Degree in Operations Research & Management Science from the University of Delhi, India.

Ratna Babu Chinnam, Ph.D,

Data Science Strategy & Solutions Advisor

Ratna Babu Chinnam is a seasoned expert in delivering advanced analytics solutions at Loven Systems. He has over 20 years of research and development experience in predictive analytics, data mining, and machine learning, leading many research & development projects funded by large companies such as Ford Motor Company, General Dynamics, Intel, Chrysler, and many others and also by governmental agencies such as NSF, DoT, DoD, DoE and VA.

Dr. Chinnam’s most recent accomplishment in Data Science, is the establishment of a Big Data & Business Analytics Group at Wayne State University and launching of an annual symposium (www.bigdata.wayne.edu) to bring industry, government, and academia all together on a single platform and discuss issues and experiences pertaining to the adoption of advanced analytics to solve real-life problems.

A prolific author of over 150 technical research papers, Dr. Chinnam’s research is widely recognized as best in class and has won him and his students multiple best paper awards, including the 2013 Best Dissertation Prize from INFORMS, and 2014 Best Dissertation Paper award from INFORMS and POMS.

Dr. Chinnam received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology / India in 1988 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1990 and 1994, respectively. Besides, being part of the & core team, he is also a Professor of Industrial & Systems Engineering at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, USA.

Alper Murat, Ph. D,

Principal Data Science Advisor

Alper Murat assists Loven Systems in designing and developing scalable solutions for optimization modeling techniques. Alper has a strong expertise in the design and development of predictive analytics, optimization modeling and simulation techniques with applications to the fields of supply chain management, logistics and transportation, product development, quality, reliability and healthcare. He is the author of more than 50 technical publications including conference proceedings and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles that appeared in leading academic journals.

He has successfully lead numerous funded research projects with Ford, General Dynamics, HFHS, US DoT, DHS, General Dynamics, and Ford Motor Company and VA VERC on various applications of descriptive analytics, predictive analytics, operations research, simulation tools and techniques. He has also consulted and developed technology solutions for Dominos, CapGemini, Whirlpool, Steelcase, and General Dynamics.

Alper received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and M.S. in Industrial Engineering degrees both from Bogazici University/Turkey in 1998 and 2000. He completed his Ph.D. degree in Management Science/Operations Research from the Desautels Faculty of Management McGill University/Canada in 2006. He graduated and mentored more than 10 doctoral students and visiting scholars. Dr. Murat and his students’ research is recognized through multiple best paper awards from national and international conferences, journals, and professional societies, including the 2007 UPS SOLA Best Dissertation and 2013 INFORMS Transportation Science and Logistics Society’s Best Dissertation Prize.

Besides being a Professor in the ISE Department at Wayne State University. Dr. Murat is the director of the planned NSF Center for Excellence in Distribution and Logistics at Wayne State University. He is currently on Sabbatical from Wayne State University to work with Loven Systems.
